This week host Erin Prather Stafford talks with Dr. Nicole Bedera, a sociologist studying how sexual violence is much bigger than the people involved in a sexual assault.
Dr. Bedera's research broadly focuses on how our social structures contribute to survivors' trauma and make sexual violence more likely to occur in the future. Her scholarship has influenced sexual violence prevention programming across the country, including for Planned Parenthood, and her work has been featured in many popular outlets, including The New York Times, NPR, USA Today, and Teen Vogue. Dr. Bedera is the author of the forthcoming book On the Wrong Side: How Universities Betray Survivors to Protect Perpetrators of Sexual Assault.
Host Erin Prather Stafford launched the website Girls That Create to support parents and caregivers of creative girls while encouraging more excellent female representation across the arts. Visit girlsthatcreate.com and follow us on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and YouTube.
