It’s been such fun … and so enlightening … to interview guests for my KIDFUN AND MORE podcast on the Word of Mom Radio Network. I’m thrilled to be on Word of Mom because I immediately connect with like-minded people.
This week’s podcast is with Dr. Rhonda Clements, an author, national speaker and professor on the child’s right to play. The topic she selected was childhood memories about play. I loved having this discussion, remembering so many of my own childhood memories.
Rhonda and I reconnected. We worked together about 20 years ago on a project that meant so much to both of us. I have a public relations business and the theme park Sesame Place was my first client. It was the nation’s only theme park based on the award-winning Sesame Street television show. In the early days it was a play park – all human-powered. When the character Abby Cadaby was introduced on Sesame Street, we introduced the walkaround character at the park. We said she was our new neighbor. Well, we hired Dr. Clements and she and I created the Good Neighbor Award and we recognized young children on the east coast who were good neighbors. We took Elmo and Abby Cadaby to schools in Boston, Hartford, Baltimore, Washington, DC, Philadelphia and Harrisburg and brought certificates to honor one entire class of young good Neighbors. Of course, they were so thrilled for Elmo and Abby to visit their classroom. We got wonderful publicity and, even more, made memories that could last a lifetime for these young children.
It was wonderful to spend time with Dr. Rhonda Clements. I welcome anyone’s ideas on potential guests – people who are experts in the world of children – psychologists, professors, play experts, teachers, parents and more. Have an idea? … Feel free to write me at sharla@fhpublicrelations.com.
