This week, Girls That Create host Erin Prather Stafford welcomes documentary filmmaker Amanda McBaine to the podcast. McBaine directed and produced the 2024 film Girls State with her partner, Jesse Moss. Streaming on Apple TV+, the film takes its name from the Girls State program, organized by American Legion Auxiliary departments across the U.S. Sessions are designed to educate and empower U.S. high school students who have completed their junior year and focus on exploring the mechanics of American government and politics.
The Girls State documentary features a compelling array of young women from different backgrounds and their participation in Missouri's 2022 Girls State. It underscores the significance of civic engagement, the intricacies of democracy, and the influence of female voices in political leadership.
