Take off the Mask and be Transparent – by Sarah J. Cepeda

Hey hey! Hope you are doing amazingly well today!

So I have a confession to make.  I never know what I’m going to blog about in advance.  I hear a lot of bloggers who say they have a schedule of topics set up in advance so that they know each week what they are going to write about.  Sometimes they know 6 months in advance what they will write about at a particular time.  Wow!  I’m organized, but not that organized….lol.  Not me.  I write about whatever happens to be speaking to my soul at that moment.  I’m always thinking about what I may write, and even planning, but the truth of the matter is, I just wait for my topic to come to me.  I believe this is God directing me on what He needs me to share at any given time.

This week was kinda rough.  Up until today, I had absolutely no clue what I was going to write about.  I didn’t want to just pick a random topic to write about because then it would not be authentically me.  It would be robotic, just something to say.  And just having something to say is not why I write my blog.  I write it because I want to share whatever little tidbits I may have learned in my life’s journey so that maybe someone else will not have to have the same negative experiences I’ve had or better yet, my testimony will help someone through a rough spell in their life.  The only way that can happen is if I am myself and write from the heart.  All week I was contemplating what I wanted to write about.  I threw a few topics around in my head.  There were some good ones, but nothing I was really feeling.  Then, at 2 am this morning, (when I should have been sound asleep), it hit me.  This week’s topic had to be transparency.

Transparency means that something is easily seen or detected.  You can see right through it.  I’m sure you’ve heard people say, “let me be transparent”.  If you read my blog consistently, then you’ve heard me say it.  This means they are laying all of their cards on the table and being honest.  They are letting you see the real person inside of them.  So my question to you is………….are you being transparent with yourself??

In order to grow and reach new levels in our life, we must first be transparent with ourselves.  We must be straight up, no-holds-barred honest, even if it hurts.  You must be this real and honest with yourself because if you don’t truly know where you are beginning your journey, you’ll never know which way to go.  You have to have a starting point and that starting point is where you are right at this moment in your life.  You must take a good, sincere look at who and what you are; flaws, shortcomings and all.  Only when you do that, will you be able to grow and make the changes you want in your life.  No problem or issue can truly be dealt with and resolved until you acknowledge what the problem or issue is.  If you keep rationalizing in your mind that everything is ok, it will never change.

They say that knowing is half the battle.  I beg to differ.  Knowing is only 1/3 of the battle.  The other 2/3 of the battle include accepting that knowledge, and then taking action to makes changes.  Perfect example…..an alcoholic.  They know they have a problem with alcohol, but rationalize, sometimes saying they can stop whenever they want or that they are not an alcoholic because they are still a productive member of society, (a functioning alcoholic).  Because they haven’t yet accepted the fact that they are, in fact, powerless over alcohol, they continue to drink.  At some point, they become transparent with themselves and come to the realization that they do actually have a problem and cannot control their alcohol consumption.  Once they have finally reached that realization, they can begin to take steps to remedy the situation.

Are there things in your life that you’re not being honest about?  Things that, deep inside, you know need to change but you just haven’t really admitted it to yourself yet?  Things that you know are not working?  If so, it’s time to be transparent.  The only way you will truly be able to make changes and improvements is to take a good, long look at where you are right now.  Are you happy with who you are and where you are in your life right now?  Are there areas you are neglecting or avoiding because you are afraid to face them?  What have you been doing that’s not working?  What have you been neglecting to do that may resolve your issue?  No one can change your life for the better, except you.  I encourage you to take some time and evaluate yourself and see if you are really being transparent with yourself.  Look at yourself and figure out what’s working for you and what’s not.  And whatever isn’t working, CHANGE IT!!  God has blessed you with the power to have an amazing and beautiful life, but it’s up to you to make it happen.  Sit down, be honest with yourself and make changes that will allow you to live the life you really want to live.  Love yourself enough to take off the mask and expose yourself so that you can live your best possible life.  Be transparent!

Wishing you only the best,
