Kathleen Almy is the CEO and founder of Almy Education, a leading national consulting firm. With over 20 years of education experience, she has demonstrated national education policy thought leadership, and possesses a unique passion for enabling administrators, educators and students to succeed with math.
Kathleen is highly experienced in leading local, state, and national math initiatives. She is the former Illinois Director for Transitional Math where she led the statewide implementation of transitional math courses required by a law that affected over 700 high schools and nearly 50 community colleges across the state.
She worked for nearly a decade to implement a non-STEM pathways alternative to beginning algebra known as Math Literacy for College Students. She traveled the country providing professional development to administrators and faculty with innovative pedagogy, while working throughout Illinois to change state-level policies that affected acceptance of the course.
During this time, she also co-authored a successful math textbook, Math Lit, to support faculty teaching the course. This book continues to be a leading tool in classrooms and is currently entering the 3rd edition with a national publisher. Prior to her administrative work, she was a mathematics professor with 20 years of experience in high school and college classrooms where she actively engaged in initiatives to improve math courses in her department. As part of that work, she led the complete redesign of the developmental math program and was the program’s coordinator.
As the principal consultant for Almy Educational Consulting, she currently provides colleges and high schools with curated, custom solutions to improve math classes, courses, outcomes and policies nationwide. She is an accomplished speaker, consultant, and strategist.
Kathleen holds an M.S. degree in Pure Mathematics from Northern Illinois University, and a B.S. in Mathematics Education from Southern Illinois University. She is currently completing her coursework as she pursues a Doctorate in Education at Northern Illinois University.
